Review: The White Rose by Amy Ewing

Image & description from Goodreads.com

Violet is on the run. After the Duchess of the Lake catches Violet with Ash, the hired companion at the Palace of the Lake, Violet has no choice but to escape the Jewel or face certain death. So along with Ash and her best friend, Raven, Violet runs away from her unbearable life of servitude.

But no one said leaving the Jewel would be easy. As they make their way through the circles of the Lone City, Regimentals track their every move, and the trio barely manages to make it out unscathed and into the safe haven they were promised—a mysterious house in the Farm.

But there’s a rebellion brewing, and Violet has found herself in the middle of it. Alongside a new ally, Violet discovers her Auguries are much more powerful than she ever imagined. But is she strong enough to rise up against the Jewel and everything she has ever known?

The White Rose is a raw, captivating sequel to The Jewel that fans won’t be able to put down until the final shocking moments.

My Thoughts:
I read this book in less than 2 days.  It was so good!  It picks up right from the end of The Jewel.  In the first chapter you see just how cruel the Duchess really can be.  I thought she might end up being a better person but that wasn't to be.  More about the island and auguries are explained along with some history about the matriarchal society.  This installment in the series really goes into the terrible atrocities the royals have subjected the lower classes to.  Each division thinking they have it the worst when in actuality they all have been wronged in unthinkable ways.  Violet makes strides in becoming the leader the people need her to be. She's not the only one who evolves either.  Garnet, Raven and Ash all develop knew strengths as they find their place in the "Society".  I am so excited to read the next book!

Recommended for 15 & up.

I requested this book from Edelweiss in exchange for my honest & unbiased review.
