Review: Fable by Adrienne Young

As the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home seventeen-year-old Fable has ever known. It’s been four years since the night she watched her mother drown during an unforgiving storm. The next day her father abandoned her on a legendary island filled with thieves and little food. To survive she must keep to herself, learn to trust no one and rely on the unique skills her mother taught her. The only thing that keeps her going is the goal of getting off the island, finding her father and demanding her rightful place beside him and his crew. To do so Fable enlists the help of a young trader named West to get her off the island and across the Narrows to her father.

But her father’s rivalries and the dangers of his trading enterprise have only multiplied since she last saw him and Fable soon finds that West isn't who he seems. Together, they will have to survive more than the treacherous storms that haunt the Narrows if they're going to stay alive.
My Thoughts:
It's been a while since I've read a book in 24 hrs.  I got hooked from the description!  Fable is a SURVIVOR with a capital S!  Using her wits and sheer will she overcomes so much to get what she wants.  Despite it being hard to accept I understand why Saint did what he did.  I was fascinated with her ability to free dive.  The amazing things she must see as explored the coral reefs. By the end, I felt like Fable had come to terms with it as well.  The story is very well written with great characters to support Fable on her journey.  I knew as I got closer to the end that I'd be left biting my nails for the next book! I look forward to finding out more about Isolde and where the story will lead for all the crew of the Marigold. I highly recommend this story for lovers of sea adventures.

Review: Call it What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer

When his dad is caught embezzling funds from half the town, Rob goes from popular lacrosse player to social pariah. Even worse, his father’s failed suicide attempt leaves Rob and his mother responsible for his care.

Everyone thinks of Maegan as a typical overachiever, but she has a secret of her own after the pressure got to her last year. And when her sister comes home from college pregnant, keeping it from her parents might be more than she can handle.

When Rob and Maegan are paired together for a calculus project, they’re both reluctant to let anyone through the walls they’ve built. But when Maegan learns of Rob’s plan to fix the damage caused by his father, it could ruin more than their fragile new friendship...

This captivating, heartfelt novel asks the question: Is it okay to do something wrong for the right reasons?

My Thoughts:

Brigid Kemmerer has been one of my favorite authors for many years.  Starting with her Elemental series she has yet to disappoint.  This book was no exception.  Her characters are always so well written and complex.  Rob and Meagan were just as pragmatic.  Both Rob and Meagan were shouldering the burden of not only their own secrets, but those of their loved ones too,  While Meagan was judged by a single bad choice, Rob was judged by a choice someone close to him made and never given the benefit of the doubt.  The best part about this book was that as the story progressed both characters still made good and bad choices; showing that all choices and their consequences can shape us and help us evolve.    The book illustrates that not everything is always "black & white" and what may be wrong in one person's eyes, may not be in another's.  As with all of Kemmerer's books, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great, contemporary YA read.

Review: Only a Breath Apart by Katie McGarry

Jesse Lachlin is cursed.

So the town folklore says, but while Jesse’s had his fair share of tragedy, the only curse he believes is in his grandmother’s will: in order to inherit his family farm he must win the approval of his childhood best friend, the girl he froze out his freshman year, Scarlett Copeland.

Scarlett Copeland is psychic.

Glory Gardner tells Scarlett she has hidden psychic abilities, but Scarlett thinks Glory is delusional. What is real is Scarlett’s father’s irrational fears, controlling attitude, and the dark secrets at home. Scarlett may have a way to escape, but there’s a hitch: she’ll have to rely on the one person she used to trust, the same boy who broke her heart, Jesse Lachlin.

Each midnight meeting pushes Jesse and Scarlett to confront their secrets and their feelings for each other. But as love blooms, the curse rears its ugly head…

My Thoughts:  Every book I've ever read by Katie McGarry has been breathtaking!  So this book was adequately titled.
Both Jesse and Scarlett are harboring some big demons.  Things that keep them isolated and from developing real connections with others.  That's when the universe or divine intervention decides it's time their paths cross and things change.
I have always loved how Katie writes about such serious subjects with gentleness and validity.  It's so easy to relate to her characters.  The complexity of each character gives them such depth and pragmatism.  Jesse has lost the two people he loves most; one by choice and one by death.  Now he has to decide if  he's inherited his family's curse or if he can break the cycle and become more than the Lachlin name.  Scarlett has seen her hero fall from grace.  Her father, the one man who controls her universe is now the one man she doesn't trust.
I loved how Jesse and Scarlett put aside damaged feelings to help each other.
Readers who are familiar with McGarry's books will not be disappointed!  If you haven't read any of her books add them to your TBR list right away!

Review: Regen by Cassie Greuman

Life is finally shaping up for Trisha. For the first time, she’s with a foster family she doesn’t hate. Her new school is decent, and she even has a boyfriend. Until the night she finds herself waking up in the woods covered in blood, a bullet hole in her dress.

Without her fae abilities, she’d be dead, but now the Faerie Council has given her an ultimatum. She has to help find an escaped fugitive, or be taken to Faerie, a place her missing mother told her horror stories about.

Now, Trish has to keep her day job a secret from her foster parents, join forces with the ex-boyfriend who killed her, and hunt down a dangerous criminal before he comes into his powers. Should be a piece of cake.

My Thoughts:  I love books about the Fey.  This one has its own unique take story line.  There were a few things that happened in the story that happened in the story that seemed to be there just move the story along.  They didn´t really fit well.  Trisha was a complex character.  Sometimes she was hard to figure out.  I really look forward to learning more about her and her parentage.  She evolved from a self-centered teenager to one who looked after others and cared about her family.   I hope we get to learn more about Wade and if he´s really a good guy or a jerk.  Trisha discovers that there are people who care about her and will support her unconditionally.  I hope I won´t have to wait too long for the next book to see what happens.
If you like to read books about the Fey, I think you´ll enjoy this one very much.

Review: Furyborn by Claire Legrand

When assassins ambush her best friend, the crown prince, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing her ability to perform all seven kinds of elemental magic. The only people who should possess this extraordinary power are a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light and salvation and a queen of blood and destruction. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven trials to test her magic. If she fails, she will be executed...unless the trials kill her first.

A thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a mere fairy tale to bounty hunter Eliana Ferracora. When the Undying Empire conquered her kingdom, she embraced violence to keep her family alive. Now, she believes herself untouchable--until her mother vanishes without a trace, along with countless other women in their city. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain on a dangerous mission and discovers that the evil at the heart of the empire is more terrible than she ever imagined.

As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world--and of each other.
My Thoughts:
The only thing that made this book hard to get through was the going back and forth between POVs. I liked how the story was presented but sometimes the supporting characters or villains would get confusing at times as I read through alternating POVs. The story is original and I liked the imagery very much. The characters were very well written with Rielle being the exact opposite of Eliana in so many ways. Despite knowing Rielle's fate I couldn't help but wonder how she got there. Eliana's part of the story was my favorite. She was selfless and selfish all in one complex character and I can't wait to see how her story ends. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a new series with a unique story and a fast pace.

Review: More Than We Can Tell by Brigid Kemmerer

*While this book exists in the same universe as Letters to the Lost, it is a standalone title.*

Rev Fletcher is battling the demons of his past. But with loving adoptive parents by his side, he’s managed to keep them at bay...until he gets a letter from his abusive father and the trauma of his childhood comes hurtling back.

Emma Blue spends her time perfecting the computer game she built from scratch, rather than facing her parents’ crumbling marriage. She can solve any problem with the right code, but when an online troll’s harassment escalates, she’s truly afraid.

When Rev and Emma meet, they both long to lift the burden of their secrets and bond instantly over their shared turmoil. But when their situations turn dangerous, their trust in each other will be tested in ways they never expected. This must-read story will once again have readers falling for Brigid Kemmerer’s emotional storytelling.

My Thoughts:
I read Letter to the Lost and LOVED it. I loved the way it approached parent/child relationships.  This book does much the same but with different characters.  Rev is Declan's best friend so we got to know him a little in Letters to the Lost.  More Than We Can Tell is his story along with Emma's.  Both characters are dealing with some really heavy issues in their lives.  At first they confide in just each other.  But they soon discover that their actions don't just affect them.  I enjoyed learning more about Rev's background and watching him face down his demons.  It was so touching as Rev figured out how truly loved and supported he was.  It hit me hard in the "feels".  Emma is still figuring out who her "people" are.  I think she definitely put her faith in the wrong ones and it took her a while to see who was really there for her.  Both characters were pragmatic and complex.  I felt that Emma's story was left a little open ended, but nothing that really bothered me.  I kind of wanted to find out what would finally happen with her and her mom.  The best part was not only getting to see Rev close a huge and painful chapter in his life, but getting to Declan doing the same.  While you don't have to read Letters to the Lost to enjoy this book, I highly recommend reading them both.  I hope if this series continues we get to see how Matthew turns out.

Review: The Hunt by Chole Neill

When bounty hunter Liam Quinn discovered that Claire Connolly was a Sensitive and infected with magic, he should have turned her in to be locked up in the prison district known as Devil's Isle. Instead, he helped her learn to control her power and introduced her to an underground group of Paranormals and humans who know the truth about the war and those who fought it.
Now the weight of Liam's own secrets has forced him into hiding. When a government agent is killed and Claire discovers that Liam is the prime suspect, she races to find him before the government can. But she'll discover proving his innocence is no simple matter. Their enemies are drawing closer, and time is running out....

My Thoughts:
OMG I love this series!  Claire's character grows along with her magical abilities.  She's finally done with hiding from herself and the world.
Claire's always shown bravery but there was a little bit left of her trying to hold on to the old life she had with her dad.  That time has gone.
Now it's time to fight for the one's she cares about and for the town she hold dear.  Liam is learning to deal with his possession of magic.  To become something you've hated for so long is a huge WHAMMY to one's psyche.  I really enjoyed watching both Liam & Claire adjust to this new development.  Liam and Claire are now both wanted for things out of their control.  Liam is falsely accused of murder and Claire is a fugitive because she has magic.  Despite helping to keep the Veil closed the government still wants her a prisoner of Devil's Isle.  Some big secrets are revealed in this installment.  Claire finally deals with her father's secrecy and why he kept so much from her.  It's the bombshell about her mother that really keeps you on the edge of your seat.  I can't wait to see what happens next.  I mean Chloe can't just leave the ending like this....can she?!   If you haven't started this series get on it!!  Magic, suspense, romance and secrets...how can you say no?!

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest thoughts and review.

Review: The Veil by Chloe Neill

Seven years ago, the Veil that separates humanity from what lies beyond was torn apart, and New Orleans was engulfed in a supernatural war. Now, those with paranormal powers have been confined in a walled community that humans call the District. Those who live there call it Devil's Isle.

Claire Connolly is a good girl with a dangerous secret: she’s a Sensitive, a human endowed with magic that seeped through the Veil. Claire knows that revealing her skills would mean being confined to Devil’s Isle. Unfortunately, hiding her power has left her untrained and unfocused.

Liam Quinn knows from experience that magic makes monsters of the weak, and he has no time for a Sensitive with no control of her own strength. But when he sees Claire using her powers to save a human under attack—in full view of the French Quarter—Liam decides to bring her to Devil’s Isle and the teacher she needs, even though getting her out of his way isn’t the same as keeping her out of his head.

But when the Veil threatens to shatter completely, Claire and Liam must work together to stop it, or else New Orleans will burn…

My Thoughts:
I am so excited to have a new series to get hooked on!  This book has all my "must haves" to make it a great read.  Great characters.  Claire is both brave and vulnerable.  She has survived the war and adjusted to a simple life in New Orleans.  She didn't let the war break her despite all that it took from her.  Liam is the perfect "knight in tarnished armor".  He's seen the side of war that most people haven't and he knows that the lines are not so evenly drawn.  When he decides to help Claire instead of taking her in as just another bounty; life starts to get a lot more complicated for them both.
The original story concept and steady pace of action made this book one of my new favorites.  I can't wait to read the next one!

Review: Dating The It Guy by Krysten Lindsay Hager

Emme is a sophomore in high school who starts dating, Brendon Agretti, the popular senior who happens to be a senator's son and well-known for his good looks. Emme feels out of her comfort zone in Brendon's world and it doesn't help that his picture perfect ex, Lauren seems determined to get back into his life along with every other girl who wants to be the future Mrs. Agretti. Emme is already conflicted due to the fact her last boyfriend cheated on her and her whole world is off kilter with her family issues. Life suddenly seems easier keeping Brendon away and relying on her crystals and horoscopes to guide her. Emme soon starts to realize she needs to focus less on the stars and more on her senses. Can Emme get over her insecurities and make her relationship work? Life sure is complicated when you're dating the it guy.
My Thoughts:
I'll be honest.  This book was hard for me to get through.  Emme's immaturity was her biggest downfall as a character.  She was immature even for her age.  After reading the whole story is was obvious why Emme remained so self-centered and made little progress in her character growth.  She was completely surrounded by self-centered adults.  Her parents missed signs and opportunities to help their daughter through some really tough situations.  Then Emme was surrounded by self-absorbed peers too.  Her friend Margaux was unlikeable most of the time as she proved time after time to be a terrible friend while giving bad advise and never really offering Emme any real help.  The only two people I felt had Emme's best intentions in mind were Kylie and Darren.  And Darren gets fazed out without any closure to his part of the story.  It's not that I didn't like the story.  It's that it had such huge potential to show growth and development with its characters along with touching on some big issues that affect teens today and it fell short.  I kept rooting for things to go deeper and for Emme to get some kind of epiphany to get her to rely on herself more.  All the back and forth drama and emotional roller coaster between Brendon and Emme was exhausting.  At one point I was struggling on why they should even be together.  In the end there is some slight evolvement for both of their characters but honestly it was too little, too late.  All this may come down to the fact that I just couldn't connect with Emme.  That doesn't mean reader's between 13 & 15 won't have a different experience.

Review: Shiftless by Aimee Easterling

PMS is no fun for werewolves.

Forget the full moon, female werewolves shift uncontrollably at that time of the month. But after years of practice, teenaged Terra learns to squash her wolf, which allows her to flee the repressive village where she grew up.

A decade later, Terra realizes she has an even worse problem. After hiding from her wolf for so long, she is now shiftless, unable to change back into canine form.

When her father shows up with an ultimatum, Terra knows she'll have to learn to shift or return to her place in her family's pack. Will Wolfie, a nearby alpha who's more wolf than man, be a stumbling block in Terra's quest to maintain her freedom?

As Terra struggles to escape two werewolf packs that seem poised to suck her back in, the real question becomes --- does she really want to stay away?

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this book.  It's been a while since I've read a werewolf series so I'm glad I found this one.  Terra has been on the run from her overbearing, sadistic father for more than a decade.  Even though she struggles with not being part of a pack, her freedom is worth the heartache.  Now she's being pulled back in to craziness of the pack.  Terra has to make a choice...her freedom or her sacrifice her only nephew to become her father's next pawn.  I love how Terra isn't perfect.  She has some serious issues and she actually has to learn to overcome them in order to forge on to her true path.  Wolf Young is the perfect hero who doesn't impose himself and immediately take over Terra's life.   The only thing I really didn't like about him was his nickname.  "Wolfie".  I just couldn't make it fit the image in my head so I just read his name as Wolf.  The story is a great kick-off to what I think will be a good series.  I'll be reading the next books in the very near future.

Review: Undertaking Irene: a Jane Delaney Mystery by Pamela Burford

Jane Delaney does things her paying customers can’t do, don’t want to do, don’t want to be seen doing, can’t bring themselves to do, and/or don’t want it to be known they’d paid someone to do. To dead people.

Life gets complicated for Jane and her Death Diva business when she’s hired to liberate a gaudy mermaid brooch from the corpse during a wake—on behalf of the rightful owner, supposedly. Well, a girl’s got to make a living, and this assignment pays better than scattering ashes, placing flowers on graves, or bawling her eyes out as a hired mourner. Unfortunately for Jane, someone else is just as eager to get his hands on that brooch, and he’s even sneakier than she is, not to mention dangerously sexy.

Just when she thinks her biggest problem is grand theft mermaid, things take a murderous turn. But hey, when you’ve teamed up with a neurotic seven-pound poodle named Sexy Beast, how can you go wrong?

My Thoughts:
OMG this book was hilarious!!  Just the right combination of mystery & comedy.  Jane is a funny and intriguing character who's affinity for un-groomed poodles and expensive tequila made this story a great read.  Jane can't seem to quite get over her ex-husband, who is still her best friend, Dom.   When she finds her employer/surrogate grandmother dead, she's immediately suspicious of the circumstances and decides to follow her gut.  Throw in a pilfering priest impersonator and you have the formula for good time!  I can't wait to read the other books in this series.

Review: Water Spell by Lizzy Ford

A water mage and the protector she never wanted.

Rare water mage Sela is given no time to mourn the loss of her longtime protector and father figure before she’s faced with the one man standing in the way of her freedom: her new guardian, mage-warrior Tieran.

An Inlander with no honor, Tieran is loyal to no man, priest, king or god. If not for the magic binding him to the infuriating water mage, he would abandon her amidst the land-locked Inlands, away from the sea she yearns to visit, and pursue vengeance against those who killed his family.

Sela and her reluctant protector are soon thrown into the middle of a power struggle raging among the rulers of the four island kingdoms. To survive, both mage and warrior must overcome their distrust of one another, for the longer they resist their bond, the more perilous their journey becomes.

My Thoughts:
I bought this book on a whim.  I have read and liked several of Lizzy Ford's books so I thought I'd try this one.  I'm glad I did.  This was a unique and interesting book.
Sela is a water mage who has no idea how powerful she really is.  Tieran is a rough Inlander who sees no value in a water mage stuck in the middle of nothing but land.  Since one can't live without the other they must learn to tolerate each other or they won't survive.  Sela has some major losses to grieve through.  What she doesn't know is that Tieran is also dealing with his own massive loss that has made revenge has sole purpose in life.  When they set aside their personal stuff to help each other they realize their may be more than just tolerance growing between them.  I can't wait to read the next book in the series.  If there's a blog tour or early review team in the works, sign me up!!

I recommend this book for ages 16 & up.  Mild to moderate sexual and adult situations.

Review: Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer

Juliet Young always writes letters to her mother, a world-traveling photojournalist. Even after her mother's death, she leaves letters at her grave. It's the only way Juliet can cope.

Declan Murphy isn't the sort of guy you want to cross. In the midst of his court-ordered community service at the local cemetery, he's trying to escape the demons of his past.

When Declan reads a haunting letter left beside a grave, he can't resist writing back. Soon, he's opening up to a perfect stranger, and their connection is immediate. But neither Declan nor Juliet knows that they're not actually strangers. When life at school interferes with their secret life of letters, sparks will fly as Juliet and Declan discover truths that might tear them apart.

My Thoughts:
Brigid Kemmerer is an amazing author.  Her Elemantals series remains one of my favorite series of all time.  I wish it would become a t.v. show.
When I got the chance to read Letter to the Lost I felt confident it would be fantastic.  Of course I was right!  Juliet & Declan are fascinating, complex characters that had my attention from the start.  The supporting characters have just as much depth as well.  The story held the perfect pace and never lagged.  The thing that I loved most were the realistic reactions of the characters to their situations.  I can not tell you how many times a book has been ruined by the characters reacting unrealistically to their own story.  Letters to the Lost touches on the relationships between parents and children.  Not just the typical ones either.  It shows there are different kinds of parent/child dynamics, and that each one is unique.  This book also dealt with the fact that parents make mistakes too and sometimes it's hard to get past that.  Juliet and Declan are able to help each other past some big issues as they both journey through the stages of grief and forgiveness.

You will love this book if you want good writing and great characters.  I recommend this book for ages 15 & up.

Review: Storm Revealed (Phantom Islanders Part II) by Ednah Walters

Lexi resigns herself to the primitive living and the strange customs of the islands but struggles with the fact that she will never see or help her brother again. As the people embrace her as Storm’s chosen mate, Lexi slowly begins to see the magic around her.
When she discovers the truth about Storm and his people, she finally understands why he abducted her and why he needs her to stay.

Just as her feelings start to change, someone obsessed with her strikes and threatens to destroy the island and its people. Left with no choice, Lexi makes the ultimate sacrifice.

My Thoughts:
I had an internal battle over this novella.  I wanted to read it so bad, but I knew it would end in a cliffhanger and I knew I wouldn't want it to end.  I couldn't hold out any longer!  It was really good.  In this installment of the Phantom Islanders we get to know more about Storm's background and his connection to the evil Tullius.  Lexi is adapting to island life with bravery and spunk.  The ending was one that will leave you clinging to your sanity not knowing what will happen next!  I can't wait to read what comes next!!  I highly recommend this series.  It has such a new and creative angle on mythical pirates and sea creatures.  Plus she's added a little of my favorite subject; the Fae.  Hurry up Ednah I'm going crazy!!!

Review: The Black Tempest by Ryan Dalton

It’s summer in Emmett’s Bluff, and the ice is spreading. Six months after confronting an enemy from the future, Malcolm and Valentine Gilbert have returned to their normal teenage lives. Or, they’ve tried to. During the battle to save their town, a mysterious force awoke inside the twins. Time calls to them, and it’s growing too strong to be ignored.  When warriors from a mysterious ancient kingdom appear, they bring warnings of an unstoppable foe—one whose control of the ice is powered by Time itself. But ice is far more than the Black Tempest’s signature. As the twins uncover the truth behind it, they realize their town is only the beginning. If the Black Tempest is not stopped here, his corruption will threaten the very course of history.  As cold advances and doom draws near, the twins’ only hope lies in learning to wield Time itself, and in trusting their strange new friends—even if those friends have secrets of their own.

My Thoughts:
This book begins six months after the last book ended.  Malcolm and Valentine are just now starting to feel like things are getting back to normal.  Just as they are saying their final goodbyes to a friend lost in battle, another warrior falls into their world.   This starts a series of events that sets the twins on a path to learn just how special their relationship with time really is.
I really enjoyed all the new elements introduced in this book.  The first book only scratched the surface of the twins possible powers.  Not only do their powers evolve but so do their relationships.  Some parts of the story were a little predictable, but others came as a complete shock.  I appreciated the realistic reactions all the characters had to their situations.  It added depth and made the book so much better.  I hope the author reveals how the twins are or became Chronauri.  This book is great for anyone who loves reading adventure.
Recommended for ages 13 & up.

Review: Storm ( Phantom Islanders Part I) by Ednah Walters

Pirates no longer roam the seas.
Phantom Islands don’t exist

Nanny to a wealthy family, eighteen-year old Alexandria “Lexi” Greendale sends most of what she earns home to support her disabled brother. She is determined to help him get the surgery he needs to walk again. Her dreams come to an abrupt halt when she rescues a man from drowning.

How does he repay her? Captain Storm Orath abducts her, claims her as his chosen mate, and takes her to a magical island that is centuries behind times with barbaric customs.
For Lexi to make it home to her family, she must fight the lure of the man and the island he controls, and escape, or stay trapped forever.

This is Part I of a 3-Part New Adult UF Serial about a woman and her journey of discovery, adventure, and unforgettable love.

My Thoughts:
I have spent the past few years emerged in Ednah Walters 2 universes, The Guardian Legacy & The Runes series.  I have loved every word and every detail of them both!  Now she has introduced us to a new world.  I am so excited for this fresh, new adventure.  In this first installment we meet Lexi.  She's a girl who loves her brother and will do anything she can to help him, including putting up with her step-monster and putting off college and her dreams.  Once Storm enters her life nothing makes sense.  Her already complicated life reaches new levels of crazy.  Lexi keeps her eyes on what she wants and is determined to get back home to her family no matter what.  Lexi is a strong, capable character who will no doubt give Storm a run for his money!  Storm is a guy who is used to getting what he wants.  He takes care of his own and now he's decided Lexi is HIS.  I can't wait to unlock the many secrets this series holds.
Recommended for 16 & up.  Moderate sexual situations and violence.

I also recommend Ednah's other series as well.  She is an amazing author!

Her world starts to crumble, the ripple effect threatening to destroy the one thing she can always count on. Her relationship with Echo. Cora must sort through the lies to learn the truth about who and what she is. Only then can she embrace her destiny and claim her soul mate, Echo.

My Thoughts:
I was so excited to read Cora's story!  This did not disappoint!  As I've said in reviews past, Ednah has such a gift with weaving all aspects and different views of the story into a multi-dimensional universe!  Cora and Echo have such a sweet & spicey love story.  I melt every time I read something new from their story.  I really enjoyed all the new relationships Cora developed and even the new one she had with Eirik.  Cora has turned into a character just as wonderful and loveable as Raine.  It's hard knowing this series is coming to an end.  It's like preparing to say goodbye to dear friends.  You will love this series if you haven't already succumbed to its magic!!

Review: Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levensellar

A 17-year-old pirate captain intentionally allows herself to get captured by enemy pirates in this thrilling YA adventure.

If you want something done right . . .

When the ruthless pirate king learns of a legendary treasure map hidden on an enemy ship, his daughter, Alosa, knows there's only one pirate for the job—herself. Leaving behind her beloved ship and crew, Alosa deliberately facilitates her own kidnapping to ensure her passage on the ship, confident in her ability to overcome any obstacle. After all, who's going to suspect a seventeen-year-old girl locked in a cell? Then she meets the (surprisingly perceptive and unfairly attractive) first mate, Riden, who is charged with finding out all her secrets. Now it's down to a battle of wits and will . . . . Can Alosa find the map and escape before Riden figures out her plan?

Debut author Tricia Levenseller blends action, adventure, romance, and a little bit of magic into a thrilling YA pirate tale.

My Thoughts:
I loved that this book was from a female pirate's POV.  The book was interesting and a fun read.  Alosa was not your typical female character.  Not once she plat the damsel in distress.  She was witty and smart.  I loved her strength and tenacity.  She has many secrets and does a good job of hiding them.  I can't wait to read more about her in the next installment.  Riden was wonderfully complicated.  I like characters that have some dimension to them and he did not disappoint.  He was conflicted and loyal.  He and Alosa had great banter that kept the story entertaining.  Some things I'd like to learn in the next book or books are about both of their pasts; such as how did Alosa get to be in her father's custody and what really happened to Riden's father.  Any reader looking for a fun and adventurous story will love this book.
P.S.  I hope they do a better cover to do this book justice.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
